Frequently Asked Questions

A few things people ask us about the shop, the makers, and the place itself. If your question isn't here, say hello — we read everything.

Is Blackbird Hollow a real place?

Yes. Blackbird Hollow is a working home at the end of a gravel lane — a farmhouse, a glasshouse, a workshop, and a pond, kept by Ana. You can walk the grounds in our gallery and read about it on the Visit Ana page.

How do you decide what earns a place on the shelf?

One rule: nothing gets a shelf unless it's made by hand, built to last, or genuinely loved. A few things we make ourselves, most we curate from small independent makers, and a handful we simply point you toward.

Who makes the goods?

Mostly small, named makers — you'll find the maker and the materials written into every product. When something is hand-poured, hand-dipped, or hand-thrown, we say so.

What materials do you favor?

Natural, honest ones: beeswax and soy, linen, cotton and wool, stoneware and clay, wood, brass, and glass. Where a candle uses essential oils instead of synthetic fragrance, we note it on the product.

How is “A Field Guide to Slow Living” delivered?

It's a digital edition — delivered as a download right after checkout. Print it, fold it, and keep it by the kettle.

How do I care for beeswax candles and tapers?

Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before each burn, let the first burn go until the wax pool reaches the edges of the vessel, and keep the flame out of drafts. Beeswax burns slow and clean when you do.

Do you ship, and what about returns?

Yes — everything is packed and sent to your door. You'll find current shipping times and our return window at checkout and in the store footer.

Can I visit the Hollow?

It's a working home rather than a shop you can walk into, so we keep it private. The next best thing is the gallery and the Visit Ana page — that's the Hollow, honestly.

I'm a maker or a shop — can I be part of this?

We'd love that. Say hello on our Contact page, and if you run a shop worth the detour, the Blackbird Hollow Directory is where we send people looking.
